DAY 1 : FROM STRUGGLE TO STRENGTH - SHANIB'S JOURNEY OF RESILIENCE

Shanib grew up in an abusive household, witnessing his father’s violent behavior toward his mother and two younger brothers. Eventually, his parents separated, and Shanib moved with his mother and siblings to a small single-room accommodation. His mother worked tirelessly as a domestic helper to provide for her children.
In 2021, Shanib joined CHINAR International’s Child Development Program, enabling him to benefit not only from the education support, but also receiving critical mental health care to address emotional distress. With care and guidance, he began to heal and rebuild his life.
Today, Shanib is in Class 11, balancing his studies with a part-time job to support his family. His journey from trauma and despondence to opportunity and healing is a testament to the transformative power of timely intervention.
Shanib’s story reminds us that with the right care and support, even the most difficult circumstances can be overcome.

DAY 2: REBUILDING LIVES: HOW RAYEES FOUND HOPE AMID HARDSHIP

In the remote village of Zarkan located in District Shopian, Rayees Ahmad Rather, a 35-year-old skilled carpenter, faced years of financial struggle. In 2022, disaster struck when a devastating landslide destroyed his home, leaving Rayees, his elderly parents, wife, and three children with no choice but to move into an unsafe rented house. Despite owning 2 canals of apple orchard land, Rayees could barely generate enough income to cover the cost of fertilizers and pesticides, leaving virtually nothing for living expenses. His carpentry business, once a promising source of income, struggled due to a lack of proper tools and resources.
In 2024, CHINAR International stepped in to support Rayees by providing him with essential carpentry tools to revitalize his business. This intervention has significantly improved his productivity, the quality of his work, resulting in increased customer demand for his product. With increased income, Rayees is now able to cover household expenses and save for the future. Two of his children have been enrolled in CHINAR International’s Child Development Program since 2021.
His story is one of resilience and renewal—a testament to how targeted support can change lives.

DAY 3 : A STORY OF RESILIENCE, GROWTH AND IMPACT – SUPPORT ZAMEERA IN HER JOURNEY OF CHANGE

My name is Zameera Bano, a 25-year-old from Sumbal Arampora. Despite the challenges of growing up in a patriarchal society, I have carved my path as an educator and changemaker. Armed with an M.A. from IGNOU and a B.Ed. from ARR College of Education, my passion for education led me to join CHINAR International in 2022.
At CHINAR, I have transformed a modest Community Learning Center (CLC) into a beacon of hope. From teaching basic skills to bridging significant learning gaps, I’ve nurtured over 52 students, helping 15 graduate successfully. My efforts have redefined education for our community—introducing Parent-Teacher Meetings, encouraging parental engagement, and fostering a culture that values learning.
I dream of empowering more children, proving the worth of daughters, and inspiring lasting change in community through education. With your help, we can expand CHINAR’s efforts and bring transformative opportunities to more underserved communities. Today, my neighbors tell my mother, “With daughters like Zameera, there is no need for sons.” Alhamdulillah, I am proud to have achieved this milestone.

DAY 4 : EMPOWER RURAL ENTREPRENEURS LIKE OBAID - BE THE CATALYST FOR CHANGE FROM STRUGGLE TO SUCCESS

Obaid Ahmad Dar hails from Mundiyari, a remote village in Baramulla, where he lives with his parents, siblings, wife, and young daughter. Like many families in his area, Obaid and his sister worked as pashmina weavers, but the income from their labor was barely enough to cover basic living expenses. His father, a part-time laborer, could only offer limited financial support. Despite these hardships, Obaid saw an opportunity in sheep farming. With his modest savings, he bought two sheep, and over time, his flock grew to five. However, he struggled to expand further due to his limited resources.
CHINAR International stepped in with its Small Business Support Program, providing Obaid with 11 ewes, enabling him to scale up his sheep farming venture.
In just one year, Obaid’s hard work has transformed his life. His flock has grown from 11 ewes to 46 sheep, thanks to his relentless dedication. With the upcoming Eid festival, he plans to sell some rams, generating as much as 2 lakhs. Obaid’s journey reflects a powerful transformation from financial instability to thriving business ownership.

DAY 5: FROM STRUGGLE TO SELF-RELIANCE - GHULAM QADIR'S STORY

Ghulam Qadir Parray from Pamposh Colony, Srinagar – one of the enrolled communities under Parvaaz, struggled to provide for his family due to health issues. CHINAR supported his children’s education and provided his daughter, Shaista Qadir, with a cosmetic unit for livelihood. With her expertise, they improved their living standards and recently graduated from our program, becoming fully self-reliant. Grateful to our donors for making this possible!

Day 6: FROM STRUGGLES TO STRENGTH: HELP UZMA ACHIEVE HER DREAMS

Living in Hardpanzoo, Budgam, with her parents and four siblings, Uzma’s family struggles to make ends meet. Her father, a shepherd, does his best, but the financial burden—especially with two children needing special care—has been overwhelming.
Born with a physical disability, Uzma dreams of independence and providing for her family. But poverty nearly robbed her of her education, forcing her to consider dropping out of school.
In 2023, Uzma and her sister were enrolled in our Child Development Program, giving them access to the resources and support they needed. A tuition center, equipped with a qualified teacher, helped Uzma overcome her academic struggles and pass her 8th-grade exams. Beyond academics, she has blossomed into a confident young girl, breaking through her shyness and embracing her potential.
Her younger sister, talented in academics, public speaking, and art, is also flourishing under the program. CHINAR International remains dedicated to empowering Uzma and her family, helping them build a brighter future.

I am Joziya Gulshan, a Teach with CHINAR Fellow at Government Middle School, Dangerpora, Sumbal Sonawari. Many of my students lacked motivation, access to resources, and opportunities for growth. Parents were uninvolved, and the school faced significant infrastructure limitations. Yet, these obstacles inspired me to find innovative solutions—leveraging activity-based learning, storytelling, technology, and community engagement.
Through consistent efforts, I’ve seen my students thrive academically and socially. Their participation in school activities has soared, and parents now recognize the transformative power of education. My work has also fostered collaboration among teachers and enriched the school environment.

DAY 9: FROM POVERTY TO PURPOSE - BASHARAT(name changed) JOURNEY TO BECOMING A DOCTOR

In the modest tin shed of Lahori Check Bandipora-Magam Narbal, six members of the Rather family live with hope of better days to come. Among them is Basharat Hussain, a young man who has turned adversity into an inspiring success story.
In 2021, Basharat achieved the extraordinary—securing a seat in GMC Srinagar’s MBBS program after cracking the NEET exam. But his father’s modest needlework income, coupled with health issues, left the family struggling to meet even basic needs. Supporting Basharat’s medical degree seemed impossible.
At this critical juncture, CHINAR International stepped in. Covering his tuition, hostel fees, and educational expenses, CHINAR lifted the financial burden off Basharat’s shoulders. “Coming from a BPL family, pursuing my MBBS dream would have been impossible without CHINAR’s assistance. They have been my pillar of support”, shares Basharat
Now in his final year, Basharat has passed every exam with flying colors. Beyond personal success, he envisions a future of service—giving back to his community by improving healthcare access for underserved populations.

Shahid Hussain Koka, a 20-year-old from the remote village of Mungli, Warwan, overcame immense challenges to transform his life. Born into a Below Poverty Line family and losing his mother at birth, Shahid struggled academically and lacked basic literacy and math skills when he joined CHINAR International’s Community Learning Center (CLC) in 2018.
Through activity-based learning and personalized guidance, Shahid made remarkable progress. He advanced from struggling with basic English and math to writing paragraphs and mastering complex concepts. With the support of CLC, Shahid passed his 10th and 12th-grade exams on his first attempts and is now pursuing a Bachelor’s degree at Govt Degree College Anantnag.
Shahid’s transformation is a testament to the power of education and community support. Today, he dreams of pursuing professional courses to uplift his family and inspire others in his village.

In the small village of Devespora Magam, Kupwara, 19-year-old Nayeem Sultan grew up in a world where education was often out of reach. His father, a laborer, struggled to make two ends meets, let alone cover school expenses.
In 2021, CHINAR International enrolled him in its Child Development Program, fully covering his educational expenses and providing the support he needed to continue his studies.
By 2024, Nayeem had successfully passed his Class 12 exams with good grades. Graduating from the program, he joined our Higher Education Support Program, where he is now pursuing his bachelor’s degree while learning computer skills. With the dream of becoming a teacher, Nayeem is determined to uplift his community and inspire others to overcome challenges..
Nayeem’s story is a testament to the transformative power of education. His journey has already inspired many in his village, proving that no obstacle is insurmountable with the right support.

I am Afsana Bashir, a 25-year-old from Gatipora, Shopian, where resilience defines everyday life. My journey has been one of determination—overcoming limited resources to earn a postgraduate degree in Public Administration and dedicating my life to education and community empowerment.
In June 2023, I joined CHINAR International as a facilitator for the newly established Community Learning Centre (CLC) in Gatipora. Running CLC and making a difference wasn’t easy—parents were hesitant, and students required special attention to overcome foundational gaps.

After graduating from the CLC, she passed her 10th-grade exams on her first attempt in 2022 and is now pursuing her 12th-grade education with aspirations to become a teacher and serve her community.

DAY 16: TRANSFORM LIVES LIKE MUSKAAN'S – YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS

Muskaan Jan’s story is one of resilience and transformation. Growing up in Abhama, Pulwama, she faced unimaginable challenges. Her father, Bashir Ahmad Gilkar, battles a severe mental disability that requires constant care, while her mother also struggles with mental health issues. With no source of income, the family survives solely on the goodwill of neighbors.
Their home—a single cramped room—lacks even the most basic necessities. For Muskaan, hope seemed like a distant dream.
In 2017, CHINAR International identified Muskaan as highly vulnerable and stepped in to change her story. Enrolled in our Child Development Program, she was provided access to a private school and tutoring support. From struggling in the 6th grade, Muskaan has blossomed into a diligent student who excels academically and is now an active member of her community.
Her journey reminds us of the profound impact education and timely support can have on a child’s life. Muskaan’s success has become a beacon of hope for her family, proving that even the toughest circumstances can be overcome with compassion and opportunity.

DAY 17 : A JOURNEY OF HOPE - HOW SAJAD IS BUILDING A BRIGHTER FUTURE

In the serene Wadder Payeen, Kupwara, Sajad Ahmad Mir lives with his wife and six children. Life has not been easy for Sajad, who for years struggled to make ends meet as a daily laborer. His income was barely enough to cover basic needs, let alone create opportunities for his children.
In 2022 came the turning point, when three of his children were enrolled by CHINAR International in its Child Development Programme, providing them with access to education and essential care. This was the beginning of a new chapter for the Mir family—but it was only the first step.
Leveraging his prior experience in sheep rearing, CHINAR International provided him with six healthy ewes in 2023. This intervention offered a sustainable livelihood solution to support his family and empower them to break free from poverty.
Sajad seized this opportunity with dedication and hard work. In just one year, his flock has grown to 10 ewes, 2 rams, and 1 lamb. Now, his children can dream big—without the constant burden of financial insecurity.

DAY 18: TRANSFORMING EDUCATION, ONE SCHOOL AT A TIME - A TWC FELLOW'S IMPACTFUL JOURNEY

Meet Shahzada Akhter, a Teach with CHINAR Fellow (TWCF) at Government Middle School Mallapora Brinjan. With a master’s degree in history, a diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), and over eight years of teaching experience, Shahzada is transforming education in her native village by addressing systemic challenges in government schools.
Shahzada joined the TWCF program to tackle pressing issues like multi-grade classrooms, resource shortages, and disengaged learning. Her innovative approaches—creative teaching materials, activity-based learning, and digital literacy—have fostered curiosity and academic growth among students.
Beyond the classroom, she built strong partnerships with parents and community members, engaging them in the school’s progress and creating a more inclusive, supportive environment.
“Ms. Shahzada has transformed our child’s learning experience, inspiring confidence and a love for education,” said a parent.
Shahzada’s story shows how one Fellow can transform an entire school. But this is just the beginning.

DAY 20: TRANSFORMING SHALBONI - A JOURNEY FROM POVERTY TO PROGRESS

Shalboni, a remote village in Baramulla, faces extreme poverty with 800 residents struggling without basic amenities like clean water, roads, healthcare, or quality education. The literacy rate is under 10%, and most families rely on unskilled labor or farming for survival.
Through its Parvaaz Program, CHINAR has brought hope and transformation to Shalboni by addressing key challenges. Seventy children now access free education through two Community Learning Centers (CLCs) equipped with computers and reading corners. Life skills training has empowered older students, while scholarships have supported higher education. Skill development programs, like tailoring and small business support, have enabled families to achieve financial stability. Health camps have raised awareness and provided critical medical support, improving community well-being. CHINAR has also assisted families in transitioning to safer homes and better living standards.
Children are thriving academically, with families prioritizing education. Livelihood initiatives have led to financial independence for three families. Community-wide improvements in hygiene and living standards have reduced hardships.

DAY 22: CRAFTING A NEW FUTURE - NISAR'S JOURNEY TO SELF-RELIANCE

In the historic lanes of Ali Kadal, Srinagar, Nisar Ahmad Zargar lives with his wife and two children in a modest home. Nisar, a skilled coppersmith, used to work on a commission basis to support his family. However, a few years ago, he underwent a serious surgery that significantly impacted the family’s financial situation and the education of the children. As a result, his wife had to take on odd jobs to make ends meet.
In 2023, Nisar’s daughter was enrolled in the Child Development Program by CHINAR International. In addition, CHINAR provided Nisar with raw materials to enable him to return to his craft. With determination and skill, Nisar began creating elegant copperware—his hands once again shaping beauty with purpose. Within a few months, he successfully revived his livelihood..
Today, Nisar is on the path to financial stability, his craft not only supporting his family but restoring his pride as a father and artisan.

Toiba Jan, an 8-year-old from a struggling family in Pulwama, once faced overwhelming odds—academic struggles, low self-confidence, and limited resources at home. Her father’s daily wage work and her mother’s illiteracy meant little support for her education. She felt disconnected and defeated, falling behind her peers and losing hope.
Everything changed when Toiba joined CHINAR’s Community Learning Center (CLC). Through tailored interventions like role-playing, peer tutoring, creative writing, and art therapy, she found her voice, improved academically, and rebuilt her confidence. Toiba now actively participates in class, excels in her studies, and even takes on leadership roles in group projects.

DAY 24: FROM STRUGGLES TO STRENGTH - REHANA'S NURSING DREAM

In the small village of Nehalpora, Baramulla, Rehana lives in a tin shed—a stark symbol of her family’s struggles. Her father, a laborer, barely manages to find work for a few days a month, while her mother takes care of their modest home. Their insufficient dwelling mirrors their financial hardships. Yet, amid these struggles, Rehana’s determination has been unshakable.
A brilliant student, Rehana scored 72% in her 12th-grade board exams and cleared the entrance exam for the General Nursing program at the Medical Science and Technology College in Parraypora in October 2021. But her dream of becoming a nurse seemed unattainable due to her family’s dire financial situation.
That’s when CHINAR International stepped in and covered her tuition fees, books, and essentials, ensuring that nothing stood in the way of her education. Rehana reflects, “Without CHINAR’s help, pursuing my dream would have been impossible. Their support has allowed me to focus on my studies and given my family hope in an otherwise bleak situation.”
Today, Rehana is not just a nursing student; she’s a beacon of hope for her family and community, proving that opportunity can transform lives.

DAY 25: TRANSFORMING WALTENGO NARD - A MODEL FOR SUSTAINABLE CHANGE

Waltango Nard, a remote village in Kulgam District, faced harsh winters, limited resources, and a history of natural disasters. Seasonal migration disrupted education, leaving children with limited opportunities and families struggling with inadequate infrastructure.
In May 2022, CHINAR International launched the “Parvaaz” program to address these challenges by focusing on education, health, and livelihoods. Two Community Learning Centers (CLCs) introduced engaging teaching methods, increasing school attendance and improving literacy. Health camps promoted preventive care, especially for women, while livelihood projects like sheep-rearing created sustainable income, reducing financial strain and allowing families to prioritize education.
Community engagement played a pivotal role, shifting mindsets and fostering a commitment to learning. Today, children are thriving in classrooms, hygiene practices have improved, and families have new income opportunities. Waltango Nard is now a model of resilience and progress, driven by education and self-reliance.

DAY 27: BILAL AHMAD CHOPAN - FROM STRUGGLE TO STABILITY THROUGH OPPORTUNITY

In the picturesque village of Drabgam, Pulwama, Bilal Ahmad Chopan faced multiple mental health challenges that affected his ability to earn a livelihood and support his family. His son, Rahil, was at risk of losing access to essential education and care due to financial hardships.
In 2022, CHINAR International gave hope to Bilal, when it enrolled Rahil in the Child Development Program, providing him with education, resources and a safety net. This intervention also enabled Bilal to focus on his mental health.
In 2023, Bilal expressed a desire to turn his life around by starting a livelihood venture. After a thorough assessment of his skills and potential, CHINAR equipped him with a street cart to sell masala roti, a cherished Kashmiri delicacy. The venture was a turning point. The family’s future, once clouded by uncertainty, is now filled with hope and possibilities.Today, Rahil, who started in Class 2, is thriving in Class 4.
His inspiring journey highlights the transformative impact of livelihood support in helping individuals overcome hardships and build a brighter future for their families.

During the lockdown, education in our village came to a standstill. CHINAR’s Community Learning Center changed everything. DAY 29: IMTIYAZ HUSSAIN WANI'S JOURNEY- FROM STRUGGLES TO STABILITY

Imtiyaz Hussain Wani, a resilient young man in his mid-thirties, lived with his wife and two children in a single cramped room within his father’s home. Despite working tirelessly as a Medical Representative for seven years, his monthly income of just ₹10,000 left him struggling to provide for his family.
Determined to break free from this cycle of financial insecurity, Imtiyaz decided to start his own pharmaceutical distribution business. Armed with years of industry experience and a strong network of clients, he obtained the necessary licenses to begin his venture. However, limited capital forced him to start small, restricting his ability to expand and grow.
His selection in CHINAR’s Small Business Support Program marked a turning point in his life. Today, Imtiyaz’s business is thriving. With a stock worth ₹3 lakhs, he has grown his operations significantly, even creating employment by hiring an assistant to meet the growing demand. His hard work and CHINAR’s support have transformed his living conditions—his children now attend good schools, ensuring improved education, and he is ready to build a new house for his family.
Imtiyaz’s journey is a testament to the power of opportunity to transform lives. His improved financial stability has not only provided him with peace of mind but also enabled him to embrace a healthier lifestyle, reflecting his newfound confidence and success.

DAY 30: EMPOWER LIVES IN PAMPOSH COLONY

Pamposh Colony, a resettlement area shaped by decades of adversity, is home to over 2,800 people who face significant challenges daily. The community’s struggles are rooted in poverty, unemployment, and limited access to basic amenities like clean water, proper housing, and education. Over 60% of families live below the poverty line, relying on irregular income from labor, vending, and scrap collection. With a literacy rate of only 25-30%, children and youth in the colony face a bleak future, and winters are especially harsh for families living in poorly constructed shelters.
CHINAR International’s PARVAAZ Program, launched in Pamposh Colony in November 2022, is driving transformative change. To date, we have supported 120 children with quality education through Community Learning Centers, provided scholarships to 10 students, and trained 25 girls in tailoring, empowering 22 as professionals. Seven families have started small businesses, and six men in the joinery now run a self-help group.
Health initiatives include medical camps, adolescent health sessions, and hygiene kit distribution, while six families have been relocated to safer homes. A Digital Literacy Center has equipped 30 students with essential skills. The Poshe Waer adolescent Group, formed by CHINAR, is fostering leadership and addressing local issues with the energy of the community’s youth.
These transformative efforts are just the beginning. Pamposh Colony still needs urgent support to lift out of poverty and create lasting change.

The first scale-up event under PARVAAZ was held in Srinagar for the selected children and their families, totalling 36 from the Rakhi Aarat and Palpora communities. In this event, the attendees were briefed on the program’s operation, protocols, and guidelines.
SMALL BUSINESS SUPPORT UNIT LAUNCHED IN BANDIPORA UNDER YOUTH DEVELOPMENT!

Ms. Fatima Bano lives in Sumbal, Bandipora, with her joint family of 14. Due to severe health issues that left her bedridden for six months, she was unable to continue her higher studies. Now fully recovered, Fatima is determined to start a dairy farm to support her family. After being selected for Cohort V of the Small Business Support (SBS) program, CHINAR provided her with the required support to kick-start her #business, we wish her the best for the future!
FIRST EXPOSURE VISIT FOR CHILDREN ENROLLED UNDER PARVAAZ!

CHINAR recently conducted its first ‘Exposure Visit’ for 75 children enrolled in the Parvaaz program, hailing from the Palpora and Rakhi Aarat communities in the Srinagar district. The visit began at the Meteorological Department, where staff provided insights into weather forecasting and conducted practical demonstrations. This was followed by a tour of the Shri Pratap Singh Museum, where the children explored various exhibits and galleries showcasing Kashmir’s history.
ART MELA HELD UNDER CHILD DEVELOPMENT!

CHINAR held its first Art Mela for 78 enrolled children under Child Development in Budgam (33) and Srinagar (45). The event encouraged creativity and was graced by CHINAR Patron Ms. Ismet Shahmiri, Director Ms. Zeba Durrani, and Global Executive Director Mr. Irfan Shahmiri, who interacted with the children and distributed prizes.
HEALTH CAMP HELD IN SRINAGAR UNDER PARVAAZ!

CHINAR International, in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Zonal Medical Officer (ZMO) of S.R. Gunj, successfully organized its first medical camp of the year for Palpora and Rakhi Aarat communities enrolled under Parvaaz in Srinagar district. The event featured a diverse team of 20 specialists from the health department, including General physician, Dental surgeon, ENT, Ophthalmologist, Gynecologist and Dermatologist. They examined 300 individuals, comprising 156 from the general public and 144 beneficiaries.
LAUNCH OF FIRST ADOLESCENT GROUP - POSHEWEAR

Parvaaz launched its first adolescent advocacy group, named ‘POSHEWEAR,’ for the Palpora community in the Srinagar district. The event was graced by Dr. Mushtaq Margoob, Director Kashmir Board and Ms. Ismet Shamiri, CHINAR patron, who inaugurated the group and stressed on the importance of their role in community transformation.
CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP FOR WIPRO SUPPORTED FACILITATORS!

A two-day workshop on an Accelerated English Course was organized for 15 Wipro – supported community learning centre (CLC) facilitators from Bandipora and Baramulla districts. This comprehensive training aimed to address the needs of first-generation learners who have not yet acquired basic English skills.
