According to recent statistics, the majority of Kashmiri youth (~41%) are unemployed or underemployed. Attaining a government job is considered to be the benchmark of success, however government jobs are scarce and the private sector is still in a nascent stage. Additionally since dignity of labor has not evolved in Kashmir, a significant amount of skilled labor is imported from other states. The added conflict dimension makes these marginalized youth extremely vulnerable.
We work with unemployed youth to develop their mindset towards innovation, entrepreneurship and dignity of labor and to further expand their skill set so they can become self-reliant. This is accomplished by implementing programs such as skill development, entrepreneurship labs and business incubation at both the individual and community level.

The Small Business Support Program is designed to provide financial assistance and guidance to youth eager to establish their livelihoods but facing obstacles such as financial constraints and a lack of direction. We offer financial support in two tiers: Tier I provides assistance of up to ₹1.5 lakhs, while Tier II offers up to ₹3.5 lakhs for individuals with viable business ideas. Additionally, we equip participants with essential skills for running a business, including customer management, marketing strategies, and transaction record-keeping.
The Skill Development Program focuses on providing marketable skills to youth to enhance their financial growth. The program, offers skill training to young individuals who have discontinued formal education and are currently unemployed. The primary focus is to equip them with marketable skills that can be translated into a source of income, ultimately empowering them to compete effectively in the current job market. Skills like Cutting and tailoring, crewelwork, knitting, electrical, digital learning, automobile and genset repairing etc are being provided in our skill development centers.
The goal of Higher Education Sponsorship program is to provide avenues for marginalized youth to attain higher education and holistic personal development. Recognizing the pivotal role education plays in breaking the cycle of poverty, this pioneering program embraces a holistic approach, offering comprehensive support, including mentorship, career guidance, and skill-building opportunities. By investing in the education of the economically challenged youth, we aim to create a ripple effect that positively impacts entire communities.
The goal of this program focuses on relationship building with youth as CHINAR believes sports and related activities are one of the most efficient ways to remain connected with Kashmiri youth. By creating opportunities for outdoor sports, we provide avenues for physical activity and mental relaxation, crucial for combating stress and improving overall well-being.
The objective of the program is to identify youth from marginalized areas and provide them avenues to generate sustainable income by monetizing their skill. It acts as a safe space for group members where they discuss possible resolutions to their day-to-day issues/problems.
The aim of this program is to conduct different workshops, events and conferences for youth focused on entrepreneurship, skill development and business incubation. This program focuses on conducting workshops, events and seminars for youth for their overall development. It majorly intends to create a learning environment for youth by providing them with a platform where they can engage in productive discussions, brainstorm ideas, identify problems, and focus on possible solutions to these problems.
We use well-defined selection criteria to identify youth living in downtrodden communities. Assessment surveys are conducted by field monitors and local resource persons. We also use awareness and counselling sessions during community mobilization events to attract youth towards the entrepreneurship programs. The socio-economic status, educational qualification and skill set of a candidate are the primary criteria for final selection. Business plan competitions are conducted to identify the most innovative business ideas. For more information, please see our Process and Protocols HERE.
