A Human Resources and Administration professional with over 20 years of experience across the aviation, healthcare, retail, hospitality, development, and corporate sectors, she began her career in 2003 as a Flight Attendant with Air Sahara and later Kingfisher Airlines, developing strong interpersonal and client relationship skills. Her transition into Human Resources started with Airtel as an HR Executive, laying the foundation for a career in people management and administration. Over the years, she has worked with organizations including Alshaya Group, Gulf Petrochem, Ansari Toyota, Qul Fruits, and companies across the Middle East, gaining expertise in HR operations, payroll, recruitment, employee engagement, administration, and conflict resolution. A graduate of the University of Kashmir with a two-year diploma in HR, Payroll, and Conflict Management, Kehaf joined CHINAR International in May 2025.  

Zahid Ahmad

Field Associate 

Vertical: Child Development

Zahid Ahmad serves as a Field Associate in the Child Development vertical at CHINAR International. He holds a Master’s degree in Geography and has additional skills in stenography and graphic design using Canva. Prior to joining CHINAR International in 2024, he worked as an Aadhaar Operator, where he managed documentation and public service processes, developing strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Since joining the organization, Zahid has been actively involved in supporting child development initiatives and working closely with communities to strengthen program implementation. Guided by a commitment to community welfare and child-focused development, he remains dedicated to supporting vulnerable populations and contributing to meaningful social impact.  

Waseem Khan

Field Associate 

Vertical: Child Development

Waseem Khan has been associated with CHINAR International for the past three years under the Child Development Program and currently serves as a Field Associate in Budgam district. He works closely with communities in remote areas such as Arizal, Hardapanzoo, and surrounding villages. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Science and a Master’s degree in Geology from the University of Kashmir. Through his work, Waseem has developed a strong understanding of local community needs and socio-economic challenges, enabling him to engage effectively with families and stakeholders.  

Throughout his tenure with CHINAR International, he has contributed to initiatives focused on child welfare, education, and community development. Guided by a commitment to improving opportunities for children and supporting vulnerable families, Waseem remains dedicated to strengthening community-based interventions and creating meaningful social impact. 

Waseem Ahmad Bhat

Field Officer

Vertical: Child Development

Waseem Ahmad Bhat, from Heerpora, Shopian, holds a Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) and has demonstrated a strong commitment to child welfare and community development throughout his professional journey. He began his career as a Field Officer with the Heerpora Markhor Recovery Project, gaining valuable experience in community engagement and field-level implementation. He later worked as a Social Worker with the Wildlife Trust of India, focusing on nomadic and herder communities and supporting vulnerable families facing socio-economic challenges. In October 2024, Waseem joined CHINAR International as a Field Monitor and later progressed to the role of Field Officer under the Child Development Program.  

Currently, he works across communities in Shopian, supporting grassroots interventions, community mobilization, child-focused initiatives, and effective program implementation through close coordination with families, children, and stakeholders. 

Wajahat Ali

Field Officer

Vertical: Child Development

Wajahat Ali works as a Field Officer from Baramulla who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Science and a Master’s degree in Social Work. He has over one and a half years of experience as a Community Mobilizer with CHINAR International, working closely with communities at the grassroots level to support program implementation and community engagement. Prior to joining CHINAR International, he worked as a teacher for two years and volunteered with various non-governmental organizations, strengthening his understanding of community needs and social development. Through his academic background and field experience, Wajahat has developed strong skills in community mobilization and stakeholder engagement. 

Guided by a commitment to education and community development, he remains dedicated to supporting initiatives that create meaningful and lasting impact.  

Umer Qadir

Field Associate

Vertical: Child Development

Umer Qadir joined CHINAR in December 2025 as a Field Monitor for the Chalyen Chontinar region in Budgam. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree along with a qualification as a Medical Lab Technician. Prior to joining CHINAR International, Umer worked with the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-2023), where he conducted data collection and field activities across all 22 districts of Jammu & Kashmir. Through this experience, he developed strong fieldwork, data collection, and community engagement skills, enabling him to work effectively in diverse and challenging environments.  

In his current role as Field Associate, he supports field monitoring and community-based initiatives while working closely with local stakeholders. Guided by a commitment to community welfare and inclusive development, Umer remains dedicated to supporting marginalized communities and contributing to meaningful social impact. 

Mohammad Sideeq

Program Manager

Vertical: Program Manager 

Mohammad Sideeq joined CHINAR International in February 2026 as a Program Manager, bringing over 11 years of experience in the development sector. A postgraduate professional, he specializes in designing and implementing rights-based programs for marginalized and vulnerable communities. Hailing from Pulwama, Sideeq brings extensive grassroots experience, having worked closely with children, youth, and vulnerable populations. He has collaborated with government agencies, NGOs, and community stakeholders to implement impactful and sustainable development interventions.  

With strong expertise in planning and managing field-level programs, he possesses a deep understanding of community realities and social challenges. Guided by a commitment to inclusive development and social justice, Sideeq remains dedicated to creating meaningful and lasting change in the lives of underserved communities.  

Showkat Ahmad Dar

Program Officer

Vertical: Quality Education

Showkat Ahmad Dar joined CHINAR International in May 2025 as a Program Officer, contributing to Quality Education initiatives. A Gold Medallist in Sociology from the University of Kashmir and UGC-NET qualified, he is an experienced development professional, academic, and social researcher with over 16 years of expertise in education, community engagement, and social development. He served as Course Coordinator and Academic Counsellor at IGNOU Srinagar and taught at various government colleges across Jammu and Kashmir.  

At CHINAR International, he supervises Reading Corners and Community Learning Centers in Warwan and supports schools under the 100 TWC Fellowship through training and academic guidance. His experience includes work with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and Project Sahyog, along with research collaborations with ActionAid, Kashmir University, and TISS. He has published research in national and international journals and participated in numerous conferences, seminars, and workshops.  

Shahid Ul Islam

Field Associate

Vertical: Child Development

Shahid ul Islam has had a strong commitment to working with children throughout his professional journey. He began his career as a teacher and later served as an Education Fellow in a Home-Based Learning Program, where he identified school dropouts and facilitated their re-enrollment in formal schools. He subsequently worked with Child Helpline 1098, focusing on child protection issues and supporting vulnerable children. He also served as a Cluster Facilitator in the Anganwadi Adoption Program. 

In October 2024, Shahid joined CHINAR International as a Field Monitor under the Parvaaz Program, now known as the Community Development Program. Currently serving as a Field Associate in the Child Development vertical, he works closely with communities to support child-focused initiatives and strengthen community-based interventions. 

Shafqat Ramzan

Program Associate 

Vertical: Child Development 

Shafqat Ramzan is a social work professional with a Master’s degree in Social Work, a Bachelor of Education, and a Diploma in Computer Applications. With over seven years of experience in the development sector, she has worked extensively on community development, youth empowerment, and education initiatives across Jammu and Kashmir. She began her career with GAASH NGO and later served as a Cluster Facilitator with the Jammu and Kashmir Association of Social Workers, contributing to Tata Relief Committee-supported ECCE projects. She further strengthened her experience with the Indo Global Social Service Society as a Paid Volunteer and Community Mobiliser, leading youth-focused initiatives in leadership, life skills, career counselling, and climate awareness. Currently serving as a Program Associate under the Child Development Program, Shafqat also leads the Life Crafters Program, promoting communication, critical thinking, leadership, and employability skills among children and adolescents. 

Saqib Ahmad Khan

Field Associate

Vertical: Child Development 

Hailing from the remote village of Zoogu in Budgam, Saqib currently serves as a Field Associate with CHINAR International under the Child Development Program. In this role, he works closely with communities to support vulnerable children and strengthen grassroots interventions. He joined the organization in 2024, marking the beginning of his professional journey in the development sector and reinforcing his commitment to community service. Alongside his responsibilities, Saqib is pursuing his Bachelor’s degree, reflecting his dedication to continuous learning and personal growth. Guided by a passion for serving others, he remains committed to creating a positive and lasting impact in the lives of children and their families. 

Shazia yousuf

M&C Specialist 

Vertical: Media and Communication

Shazia is a Media and Communication Specialist at CHINAR International, where she has been working since June 2025. With a strong background in journalism, she brings years of experience in storytelling into the development space. She holds a Master’s in Mass Communication and Journalism from the University of Kashmir and, as a Ford Foundation Fellow, pursued another Master’s in Print and Multimedia Journalism from Emerson College, Boston, United States. She has worked as a journalist, an independent writer, and taught journalism for five years at the Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipora, after qualifying UGC NET. She is currently pursuing her PhD at the Media Education and Research Department at the University of Kashmir.  

An award-winning storyteller, her shift from media to development comes from a simple but powerful desire—to go beyond telling stories and become part of the change she once reported on. In her free time, she writes stories. 

Muzayan Bashir

Finance Associate

Muzayan Bashir holds a Master’s degree from Indira Gandhi National Open University and brings over five years of experience in the corporate sector. Prior to joining CHINAR International in October 2024 as a Finance Associate, she served as a Team Leader, where she developed strong expertise in finance, management, and coordination. Known for her dedication and hands-on approach, Muzayan plays an important role in supporting efficient financial operations and organizational processes. Guided by a commitment to excellence and attention to detail, she contributes to advancing the organization’s mission through effective financial management and professional integrity. 

Muzamil Ahmad Dar

Program Associate

Vertical: Quality Education

Muzamil Ahmad Dar serves as a Program Associate committed to community development, child welfare, and quality education. He holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Kashmir and has developed strong field experience implementing education and community-based programs in underserved and hard-to-reach areas. Previously, he served as a Block Coordinator with the Jammu and Kashmir Association of Social Workers and worked with ELFA International, where he supported community mobilization and awareness initiatives. He also volunteered with the National Service Scheme, University of Kashmir, for two years, contributing to health, education, and social outreach programs. In addition, he completed an internship with Integrated Child Protection Services, Anantnag, and volunteered with Help4All JK, supporting blood donor groups and humanitarian response efforts. Muzamil remains committed to strengthening community participation and improving access to quality education. 

Meeran Bin Tariq

Field Associate

Meeran Bin Tariq currently serves as a Field Associate in the Child Development vertical, where he contributes to initiatives focused on the welfare and protection of children. He has completed his higher secondary education and brings valuable grassroots experience through his work as a volunteer with the Human Welfare Voluntary Organization. During this time, he was involved in a project aimed at strengthening community-based care mechanisms for children in need of care and protection in Kashmir. Guided by a strong commitment to child welfare, Meeran remains dedicated to supporting community-based initiatives and promoting meaningful social development.  

Javid Majeed Mir

Javid Majeed Mir is a highly motivated and dedicated educator with over nine years of teaching experience. Currently he serves as a Field Associate with CHINAR International, where he contributes to community-focused initiatives. He holds a Master’s degree in Botany along with a B.Ed. from the University of Kashmir. With strong skills in student support and public engagement, Javid has a proven track record of delivering excellent academic outcomes. Passionate about making a positive impact, he is committed to serving society and contributing meaningfully through his work with the organization. 

Mohammad Irfan

Field Associate

Vertical: Child Development

Mohammad Irfan joined CHINAR International in 2024 as a Field Associate, where he contributes to initiatives under the Child Development program. He holds a Master’s degree in English, which supports his strong communication and interpersonal skills. Prior to joining CHINAR International, Irfan gained valuable experience as a volunteer with the Jammu and Kashmir Association of Social Workers (JKASW), participating in community-focused activities. He also served as a full-time teacher at Sheikh ul Alam Secondary Educational Institute, Rahmoo, Pulwama fostering a supportive learning environment for young learners. Guided by a strong sense of social responsibility, Irfan remains committed to supporting underserved communities and contributing meaningfully to community development efforts. 

Moomin Nath

Field Associate

Moomin Nath is a development professional based in Srinagar, committed to advancing community development initiatives. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education, which has strengthened his understanding of grassroots engagement and social work. He joined CHINAR International in 2024 as a volunteer and later progressed to the role of Field Associate. In his current role, he works closely with local communities, focusing on understanding their needs and supporting the effective implementation of grassroots initiatives. Guided by a passion for creating meaningful impact, Moomin remains committed to strengthening community-driven development efforts. 

Danish Ahmad Pala

Field Associate

Vertical: Quality Education

Danish Ahmad Pala is a social worker with over eight years of experience in community development, child protection, and mental health. He holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from IGNOU and has extensive experience working with vulnerable populations across Kashmir. His work focuses on strengthening community systems, promoting child rights, and providing psychosocial support. He has worked with the Jammu and Kashmir Association of Social Workers (JKASW), ELFA International, and the Human Welfare Voluntary Organization (HWVO) on projects supported by UNICEF, Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives (APPI), and the EY Foundation. Currently serving as a Field Associate with CHINAR International in Pulwama and Shopian under the Quality Education Project, Danish supports learning initiatives, monitors Community Learning Centers, engages stakeholders, and works to improve access to quality education in underserved communities. 

Abdul Basit

Programme Associate

Vertical: Youth Development 

Abdul Basit joined CHINAR International as a Program Associate in 2025 and works with youth development mostly on education initiatives. He holds a degree in Commerce from the University of Kashmir and brings experience in project coordination, operations management, stakeholder communication, and workflow optimization. 

Passionate about creating meaningful impact within his community, Basit has worked across startups, social initiatives, and operational roles, strengthening his ability to manage projects, coordinate teams, and support community-driven programs. His work focuses on enhancing operational efficiency, supporting youth-centered initiatives, and ensuring effective coordination among projects and stakeholders. Guided by a strong commitment to community development, he believes in creating opportunities that empower young people to grow, learn, and lead. 

Always eager to learn and grow, Basit enjoys meeting new people, exploring new ideas, and continuously developing both his professional and personal skills. 

Anjum Nazir

Field Officer

Anjum Nazir serves as a Field Officer in the Child Development vertical at CHINAR International, where she is actively engaged in advancing child welfare and community-based initiatives. She holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration, along with a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and a Diploma in Computer Applications, reflecting her strong academic foundation and multidisciplinary expertise. 

With professional experience at the Human Welfare Voluntary Organization, Anjum has contributed significantly to community outreach and development programs, working closely with diverse populations. Her dedication to humanitarian service was evident during the 2014 floods, when she volunteered with the Red Cross Society, supporting relief operations and coordination efforts during a critical time. She has also served as a POCSO support person, providing compassionate assistance to children and their families in sensitive cases and demonstrating her commitment to protection and care. 

Aijaz Ahmad Lone

Field Officer 

Vertical: Quality Education

Aijaz Ahmad Lone is a development practitioner with over nine years of experience in the social development sector. He holds a Master’s degree in Political Science, a Bachelor of Education, and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Social Work. Since October 2023, he has served as Field Officer at CHINAR International, supporting program implementation across Baramulla and Bandipora and overseeing activities at Community Learning Centres and partner schools.  

Previously, he worked as a Professional Resource Person under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission, a Fellow with Haqdarshak Empowerment Solutions Pvt. Ltd., CEO of Surabhi Earth Foundations, and a Volunteer with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Baramulla. His work focuses on capacity building, community mobilization, financial inclusion, and financial literacy through impact-driven interventions. 

Altaf Hussain

Director

Born in November 1953, Altaf Hussain graduated in Science from the University of Kashmir and earned a Post Graduate Diploma in Management and Marketing in 1977. He began his professional journey in a State Public Sector Undertaking, holding senior management roles in the textile sector and contributing to the Woollen Tweed Project in Kashmir, including production management and international marketing.

In 2000, he was inducted into the Jammu & Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) in recognition of his outstanding service. During his government tenure, he worked across multiple departments, including Power Development, Revenue, Labour, Lakes and Waterways Development, and Tourism & Culture, retiring as Special Secretary, Tourism and Culture in 2011. He played a key role in promoting sustainable tourism, improving infrastructure, reforming regulatory frameworks, and strengthening heritage conservation initiatives.

For over a decade, he has been actively involved with the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), New Delhi, serving as Convener of the Kashmir Chapter, coordinating multidisciplinary teams on heritage preservation, educational initiatives, and cultural revival programs.

He currently serves on the Board of Directors of CHINAR International Kashmir, bringing deep expertise in governance, sustainable development, and cultural heritage. He resides in Srinagar during summer and Jammu in winter, traveling as needed for professional and philanthropic commitments.

Dr. Farooq Ahmad Kaloo

Director

Dr. Farooq Ahmad Kaloo, BVSc & AH (Punjab Agricultural University, 1976), has devoted over four decades to livestock development, rural empowerment, and community welfare in Jammu & Kashmir. After joining the Animal Husbandry Department through the J&K Public Service Commission, he focused on improving livelihoods of marginalized communities using modern husbandry practices.

He served as a consultant for the Integrated Rural Development Programme, worked with the District Rural Development Agency, Budgam, and later led the Kashmir Livestock Development Board, establishing modern infrastructure, including a Liquid Nitrogen Plant, to advance frozen semen technology and enhance cattle productivity.

An expert in Animal Reproduction, IVF, and Andrology, Dr. Kaloo has published extensively in Urdu and English, organized national and international seminars, and contributed to the 16th, 17th, and 18th livestock censuses for developmental planning.

Since retirement, he has been actively engaged in social work, including initiatives with the Voluntary Medicare Society, Help Saba Cancer Charitable Trust, Syed Mirakshah Memorial High School, and several environmental and welfare NGOs.

His lifelong commitment to rural development, education, and health makes him a valuable member of our Board of Directors.

Pir Amaad Ashraf

Media Associate

Having completed his Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication and Multimedia Production from the University of Kashmir, Srinagar, Pir Amaad Ashraf excels in video editing and documentary filmmaking. His work is characterized by meticulous attention to detail and an unwavering passion for storytelling. 

For over a year, he has been working with CHINAR International, where he has been thoughtfully showcasing the organization’s work and the impact it creates through compelling visual narratives. Passionate about his craft, Amaad values the opportunity to combine technical expertise with creativity. He approaches every project with dedication and believes that his commitment and hard work are reflected in the films and reels he produces, helping amplify stories of change and community impact. 

In his free time, he is either in front of the camera or behind it. 

Suhaib Khaliq

Field Associate

Suhaib joined CHINAR International in November 2023 as a Field Officer and now works as a Field Associate in Child Development P He holds an MBA from I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University and has been actively involved in community service, including volunteering during the 2014 Kashmir floods and the COVID-19 pandemic. Since joining CHINAR International, he has contributed to community-based initiatives and grassroots development programs, working closely with communities to support effective program implementation.  

Through his work, he has developed a strong understanding of community needs and local development challenges. Guided by a commitment to community development and social impact, Suhaib remains dedicated to supporting initiatives that create meaningful and lasting change.  

Shahid Feroz

Procurement Associate

Shahid Feroz has been working with CHINAR International as a Procurement Associate since August 2023. He holds a Master’s degree in Commerce and an O-Level certification in Computer Applications. With over eight years of diverse professional experience, Shahid began his career in the skill development sector as an Information Technology Trainer and Management Information Systems (MIS) Coordinator. 

He also holds a certification in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at the operational level under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDUGKY), which further strengthens his expertise in project management and procurement processes. Currently, he contributes to strengthening procurement operations at CHINAR International through his organizational skills, process-oriented approach, and commitment to operational excellence. 

Arif Majeed Dar

Arif Majeed Dar, a resident of Pattan, Baramulla, is a development professional with a Bachelor’s degree in Education, a Master’s degree in History, and a certificate in NGO Management from IGNOU. With over eight years of diverse experience, he has worked as an Uber Driver Support Specialist in Indore, a teacher in private schools, an announcer, and a volunteer with NGOs, experiences that have strengthened his communication and community engagement skills. 

He joined CHINAR International in July 2022 as a Facilitator and later progressed to the role of Field Monitor. Currently serving as a Field Officer in Baramulla district, he works closely with communities to support program implementation and foster positive change. Committed to continuous learning, Arif aspires to grow professionally while contributing meaningfully to community development. 

Natasha Rather

Lead, Child Development

Natasha Rather has been working with CHINAR International since 2023 and currently serves as Lead, Child Development. She brings over 13 years of experience in the development sector, having worked with both national and international organizations across diverse thematic areas. Specializing in program management, Natasha is committed to advancing a rights-based approach to empowerment and development, with a strong emphasis on knowledge sharing and capacity building as tools for sustainable change. Her areas of expertise include gender justice, child rights, community development, and strategic communications. Throughout her career, she has worked closely with communities and stakeholders to design and implement impactful interventions aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable populations. Guided by a deep commitment to equity and inclusion, Natasha continues to contribute towards strengthening child-focused initiatives and promoting meaningful social change. 

Rameez Farooq Qureshi

Program Officer

Vertical: Youth Development

Rameez is a development professional with over 12 years of experience in skill development and livelihood initiatives. He holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Kashmir and has worked on various projects that have strengthened his expertise in youth empowerment and community development. With a strong understanding of challenges affecting young people in Kashmir, including unemployment and substance abuse, he joined CHINAR International in 2023 as a Project Coordinator in the Youth Development vertical. In his current role as Program Officer, he works to support initiatives aimed at empowering young people and promoting sustainable livelihoods. Committed to continuous learning and growth, Rameez values collaboration and remains dedicated to creating meaningful opportunities for youth.  

Dawood Rashid

MIS Officer

Dawood Rashid is a Management Information Systems (MIS) professional with over eight years of experience in data management, system development, and process digitization. Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology and certification through the Google Data Analytics Program, he combines strong technical expertise with practical field-level implementation. At CHINAR International, he leads the design and implementation of centralized data platforms that enhance transparency, efficiency, and decision-making. He has played a key role in developing digital systems for real-time data collection, automated workflows, and effective beneficiary management. Working closely with technical teams and stakeholders, Dawood designs and optimizes data systems to ensure smooth operations and informed decision-making. Passionate about leveraging technology for social impact, he focuses on creating scalable solutions that support child welfare and community development. 

Aijaz Rasool

Program Officer

Vertical: Quality Education

Aijaz Rasool is a Social Worker committed to community development, child welfare, and youth empowerment. He holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Kashmir and has extensive experience implementing educational and humanitarian programs in challenging environments. He previously led education and youth development initiatives in Warwan, Kishtwar, working in remote, resource-limited regions to support marginalized communities through quality education programs. He managed projects, engaged local stakeholders, and ensured the sustainability of interventions despite extreme conditions.  

Currently based in Srinagar, Aijaz serves as a Program Officer with CHINAR International, driving impactful community development initiatives. He has also worked on UNICEF-supported projects under the Jammu & Kashmir Association of Social Workers, implementing child-friendly programs and providing psychosocial support. His expertise includes community engagement, project coordination, and humanitarian aid.  

Kulsum Ashraf

Program Associate

Vertical: Community Development & Child Development

Kulsum Ashraf is a development professional with over 10 years of experience in the social sector. She has worked with organizations including SOS Children’s Village and Childline, contributing to community welfare, child protection, and social development initiatives. In August 2022, she joined CHINAR International as a CLC Facilitator and was later promoted to Community Mobilizer under the Parvaaz Program, now the Community Development Program, reflecting her dedication and leadership. In her current role as Program Associate, she continues to support vulnerable families and strengthen community empowerment efforts. Kulsum holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Social Work through IGNOU. Committed to continuous learning, she aspires to further strengthen her leadership and technical skills while contributing to sustainable development. 

Uzma Fayaz

Program Associate

Uzma Fayaz is an educator with five years of experience in the education sector and currently serves as Program Associate in the Quality Education vertical at CHINAR International. Asif Rehman

Program Associate

Vertical: Community Development & Child Development

Asif is a social worker committed to child welfare and community development. He holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Kashmir and brings extensive experience working with communities to promote social transformation, particularly in remote and challenging regions. He joined CHINAR International in April 2023 and currently coordinates program operations across the districts of Anantnag and Kulgam in South Kashmir, where he works closely with communities to strengthen interventions and drive meaningful impact. He has also worked in the highly isolated Warwan area of Kishtwar district, mobilizing communities and supporting grassroots change initiatives. Guided by a long-standing commitment to serving children and communities, Asif continues to contribute to fostering sustainable social change. 

Javaid Malik

Program Officer

Vertical: Quality Education

Javaid Malik joined CHINAR International in May 2022 as a Project Coordinator under the Quality Education program. He brings over three years of experience in the education sector through the Skill India initiative, where he worked with communities to promote social transformation and the importance of education for children. As a certified trainer under the Retailers Association’s Skill Council of India, he has trained multiple batches and imparted vocational skills to deserving individuals. 

Javaid has played a key role in strengthening foundational learning in the remote Warwan area of Kishtwar district, despite challenges related to communication, electricity, and connectivity. He continues to contribute to CHINAR’s Warwan Valley Community Transformation Program and remains committed to improving opportunities for children and youth in underserved communities across Jammu and Kashmir. 

Bashir Ahmad

Lead, Youth Development

Vertical: Youth Development 

Bashir Ahmad joined CHINAR in December 2022 and currently leads the Youth Development vertical. Drawing on over 18 years of experience in the development and humanitarian sectors, he oversees youth-focused initiatives, strengthens program implementation, and works closely with communities and stakeholders to promote meaningful and sustainable development outcomes. 

Bashir has worked with organizations including the Centre for Health Research and Innovations, the International Committee of the Red Cross, Hope Disability Centre, Handicap International, and Médecins Sans Frontières. Throughout his career, he has held diverse roles, including LTBI Coordinator, Economic Security Generalist, Project MIS Officer, Project MIS Assistant, and Data Entry Officer. He holds a bachelor’s degree and has received professional training in results-based management, team leadership, and microeconomic initiatives. He also possesses strong technical skills in Microsoft Office, internet applications, and database management. 

Zaffar Iqbal

Program Officer

Vertical: Youth Development

Zaffar Iqbal serves as a Program Officer in the Youth Development vertical and brings over 10 years of experience in community development and program implementation. Over the course of his career, he has worked with multiple organizations, developing expertise in project planning, community mobilization, research, training, and evaluation. He has extensive experience preparing Project Proposal Reports (PPRs) and Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) and facilitating community engagement through dialogue, awareness-building initiatives, and participatory approaches such as PRA and RRA tools. Through his work, Zaffar has supported communities in identifying local challenges and developing sustainable solutions. Guided by a commitment to youth empowerment and community development, he remains dedicated to strengthening initiatives that create meaningful and lasting social impact.  

Gulzar Wani

Lead, Quality Education

Gulzar Wani is a humanitarian and development professional with over 20 years of experience working to improve the lives of children, youth, women, and marginalized communities. As Program Lead at CHINAR International, he leads a team of over 100 professionals across 12 districts, driving initiatives in education, socio-emotional learning, digital literacy, reading programs, and leadership fellowships. His work has strengthened foundational literacy and numeracy, improved classroom practices, and fostered community-driven learning ecosystems through Community Learning Centers and school transformation programs.  

With extensive experience in the education sector, Gulzar has designed remedial education programs aligned with NEP 2020 and NIPUN Bharat and led capacity-building initiatives for teachers and school leaders. Holding an academic background in International Peace and Conflict Studies, he remains committed to educational equity, youth empowerment, and building resilient communities. 

Dr. Sawleha Qadir

Dr. Sawleha Qadir is a veterinarian with a Master’s degree in Veterinary Sciences and a strong passion for education and community development. Prior to joining CHINAR International in 2021, she served as a Lecturer at a Veterinary College, where she gained valuable teaching and academic experience. In her current role as Program Officer in the Quality Education Program, she contributes to strengthening educational initiatives and works closely with students and teachers at Community Learning Centers. Guided by a deep commitment to supporting marginalized children, Sawleha combines her academic background with strong leadership and interpersonal skills to foster meaningful learning environments. She remains dedicated to advancing quality education and creating lasting social impact. 

Waheed Ahmad Bhat

Mobility Executive

Waheed joined CHINAR International in 2021 as a Driver and Office Associate and currently supports the organization through responsibilities related to transportation, office security, and office maintenance. Over the years, he has become an integral part of the operations team, contributing to the smooth functioning of day-to-day activities and providing logistical support whenever required. Known for his reliability and willingness to learn, Waheed continuously strives to develop new skills and take on additional responsibilities. Alongside his professional commitments, he aspires to pursue a Master’s degree in Social Work.

Hanief Ahmad Bhat

Program Associate

Vertical: Youth Development

Hanief Ahmad Bhat serves as a Program Associate in the Youth Development vertical at CHINAR International. He holds a Master’s degree in Social Work and a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from Tahira Khanum’s College of Education. With over eight years of experience in the development sector, he has worked on initiatives related to youth development, disaster management, relief and rehabilitation, and sustainable livelihoods across Baramulla and Bandipora districts. 

Prior to joining CHINAR International, Hanief worked with IGSSS for six years, facilitating sessions on leadership, life skills, communication, self-awareness, gender, and disaster management. He also supported PRI micro-planning at village and panchayat levels and contributed to livelihood development initiatives. Guided by a commitment to youth empowerment and community development, Hanief remains dedicated to creating meaningful and lasting social impact. 

Dr Masood Hassan

Director

Dr Masood Hassan is a native of Kashmir and obtained his BSEE in 1971 from Kashmir University. He got admitted to West Virginia University (WVU) in the U.S. in 1974 to pursue his post-graduate studies. He obtained his MSEE in 1976, and his PhD. in 1979.

After his graduation from WVU, Dr. Hassan pursued a career in industry. He moved out West to Los Angeles, California and joined Jet Propulsion Labs in Pasadena CA and then to the Bechtel Corporation.

Dr. Hassan joined Teledyne Controls in 1983 as a Senior Member of Technical Staff. He worked in various engineering and business development assignments before being promoted in 2000 to lead the company as the Vice President/ General Manager and then President. Under his leadership, Teledyne Controls grew to be the leader of the Big Data and the Digital revolution in the commercial aviation industry. Its products enjoy about a whopping 75% market share within the air transport category of Boeing and Airbus commercial airplanes. He also led Teledyne Controls to be among the most profitable of the 30+ companies that constitute Teledyne Technologies.

He retired form Teledyne in 2019. In April 2021 he was inducted into the WVU School of Engineering Academy of Distinguished Alumni. He is currently involved in promoting Educational and Charitable ventures for deserving and needy youth in his native Kashmir.

Dr. Mushtaq Margoob

Director

Dr. Mushtaq A. Margoob, – Former Professor & Head, Post Graduate Department of Psychiatry, Government Medical College, Srinagar and Director Institute of Mental Health and Neuroscience, Srinagar, Kashmir is an internationally recognized expert on humanitarian emergencies and disaster mental health . Dr. Margoob’s research work encompasses a wide range of topics ranging from seasonal mood disorders to drug use problems and stress. Over the past 28 years besides behavioral neurosciences, the focus of his work has been on coping, resilience and vulnerability following traumatic stress resulting from man-made and natural disasters in the developing world and its impact on the individuals as well as communities as a whole. Dr Margoob is currently on the Editorial board of two international and two national journals including the Indian Journal of Psychiatry. He is a member/fellow of a number of international professional bodies.

Tariq Ahmad Khoja

Tariq Ahmad Khoja brings 12 years of experience in the education sector and has developed strong practical knowledge through extensive fieldwork and community engagement. He has completed his higher secondary education and has been associated with CHINAR International for the past seven years. In this role, he has been actively involved in monitoring school activities, tracking attendance, conducting field visits, and supporting program implementation. 

Working across multiple organizational verticals, Tariq has developed a strong understanding of diverse programs and community needs. He possesses excellent coordination and communication skills, enabling him to engage effectively with schools, families, and stakeholders. Guided by a commitment to supporting educational and community development initiatives, Tariq remains dedicated to contributing to meaningful and lasting impact.  

Mohammad Rafi

Rafi joined CHINAR International in 2020 as a Mess Incharge and has since grown into the role of Mobility Executive. In his current capacity, he is responsible for driving the office vehicles and supporting day-to-day operations through printing and document deliveries. Over the years, he has become an integral part of the organization, contributing to the smooth functioning of office activities and ensuring timely logistical support when required. His willingness to assist across different tasks reflects his dedication and adaptability. Known for his positive attitude and team spirit, Rafi is appreciated for creating a warm and welcoming environment and for bringing enthusiasm and camaraderie to the workplace.  

Zeba Durrani

Zeba is a technology leader at Fannie Mae, responsible for transforming and modernizing the customer facing portfolio of applications focusing on business process, digitization, UI/UX and customer enrichment. Zeba has an Engineering degree from the University of Kashmir combined with an MBA from the University of British Columbia. Outside of daily work, Zeba is passionate about the advancement of women in Technology and an active member of the WIT advisory board for her company.

Zeba gives a lot of her time to mentor women both within and outside of Fannie Mae and engages in events across the industry. On the lighter side, she writes a food blog that brings global recipes (including Kashmiri) to the digital world.

Zeeshan Hussain

Zeeshan’s journey is a testament to how opportunity, determination, and perseverance can transform potential into purpose. Hailing from a village in Budgam district, he joined CHINAR International as a young volunteer during the 2014 Kashmir floods. Recognizing his commitment and eagerness to learn, CHINAR retained him in an operations support role. Over the years, he progressed to Field Monitor and now serves as a Program Associate in the Child Development Program. Alongside his professional growth, Zeeshan completed his bachelor’s degree and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Social Work through IGNOU with CHINAR’s support. His journey reflects the power of investing in people and creating opportunities for meaningful, lasting social change. 

Imtiyaz Ahmad Malik

Imtiyaz Ahmad Malik joined CHINAR International in 2012 and currently serves as a Mobility Associate, overseeing transportation, office maintenance, and security. Over the years, he has developed a deep understanding of the social sector and remains closely connected to CHINAR’s mission and field operations. His unwavering commitment has been evident during critical periods, including the 2014 floods, lockdowns, and other challenging situations in Kashmir. 

With extensive knowledge of the region and its terrain, Imtiyaz plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth execution of programs and field activities. In addition to managing travel and logistics, he readily supports a wide range of organizational needs, including packing relief kits, loading supplies, cooking, and photography. Known for his reliability and versatility, Imtiyaz continues to be an invaluable member of the CHINAR team. 

Falak Lone

Finance Officer

Falak holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration with a specialization in IT and Marketing from the University of Kashmir. Prior to joining CHINAR International, she interned with organizations including JK Bank, Reliance Jio Ltd., and the hospitality sector. Her internship with CHINAR International further strengthened her commitment to social development and inspired her to join the organization. 

Passionate about empowering Kashmiri youth, Falak has contributed to several youth development initiatives, including business incubation, skill development centers, and E-Labs, aimed at fostering self-reliance and leadership among young people. Currently serving as Finance Officer, she is responsible for maintaining financial records and ensuring smooth financial operations. Guided by a strong belief in social service, she remains committed to contributing to the welfare and development of society. 

Mansha Muhammad

Mansha Muhammad joined CHINAR International as an intern in 2018 and currently serves as Program Officer in Youth Development vertical. She holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Kashmir. Driven by a strong commitment to serving her community, Mansha returned to Kashmir after leaving her tech school in Mumbai and has since dedicated herself to supporting young people and promoting social change. Passionate about creating safe and supportive spaces for individuals with lived experiences of trauma, she believes in empowering people to build brighter futures. In addition to her work in education, she was actively involved in CHINAR’s E-Lab Program in higher secondary schools. Committed to continuous learning, Mansha enjoys travelling, cooking, and meeting new people in her free  

Ambreen Bhat

Program Officer

Ambreen Bhat is a social worker and educator and currently serves as Program Officer at CHINAR International, advancing quality education initiatives across Kashmir. Holding a Master’s degree in Social Work, she combines strong field experience with expertise in designing and managing impactful education programs. Since joining CHINAR International as an intern in 2018, she has steadily progressed into leadership roles, managing large-scale initiatives across multiple districts. She has led Community Learning Centres, fellowship programs, and school transformation projects aimed at strengthening foundational learning, digital literacy, 21st-century skills, and socio-emotional learning. Ambreen has also played a key role in training educators and promoting innovative, child-centric teaching practices. Her work reflects strategic thinking, grassroots engagement, and a commitment to transforming education systems. 

Haris Aziz

Media Officer

Vertical: Media & Communication

Haris Aziz holds a Master’s degree in Mass Communication from IGNOU Regional Centre, Srinagar. A creative video editor and motion graphics artist, he brings a keen eye for detail and a strong passion for visual storytelling and animation. Prior to joining CHINAR International, Haris worked with several media agencies and successfully completed numerous freelance projects, further strengthening his technical and creative expertise. 

Currently serving as Media Officer and IT In-charge at CHINAR International, Haris leads the production of visual content that highlights the organization’s work and impact on the ground. He is also responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning of CHINAR’s IT infrastructure and serves as a key resource for technical support across the organization. Guided by a belief in focused work and continuous learning, Haris lets the quality of his work speak for itself. 

Mozam Fayaz Guroo

Lead, Operations & Procurement 

Vertical: Operations & Procurement

Mozam brings over a decade of experience in the humanitarian and development sector, with expertise in operations, procurement, logistics, and compliance. Before joining CHINAR International in 2016, he worked with Mercy Corps and ActionAid, gaining valuable exposure to operational management and humanitarian programming. 

At CHINAR International, Mozam has played a key role in strengthening operational systems and procurement processes, ensuring the timely availability of resources and smooth coordination across teams and locations. His experience includes vendor management, logistics coordination, documentation, compliance monitoring, and supporting emergency and program-based procurements. He has also contributed to improving internal systems, enhancing cross-functional coordination, and promoting accountability and efficient resource management. 

Known for his professionalism, leadership, and problem-solving abilities, Mozam remains committed to supporting effective humanitarian and community development initiatives through strong operational and procurement practices. 

Mehreen Khan

Program Manager

Vertical: Child Development  

Mehreen joined CHINAR International during the 2014 Kashmir floods as a nodal person in Delhi and currently serves as Program Manager, Child Development. She holds a Master’s degree in Finance and Control from the University of Kashmir and is committed to supporting underserved communities. Prior to joining CHINAR International, she worked with the Centre for Social Justice and also interned with the Reserve Bank of India. During the 2014 floods, she played a key role in coordinating relief consignments arriving from across India and the United States. Over the years, she has taken on diverse responsibilities and also developed strong procurement SOPs, contributing to efficient systems and processes across the organization.  

Afifa Lone

Assistant Director, Media, Communication & Special Projects

Afifa joined in 2012 as a Project Coordinator and is now working as Assistant Director, Media, Communication & Special Projects. Holding a Master’s degree in social work, Afifa has done practical work on social issues like drug addiction, child protection and reproductive child health. Previously, she worked as a Research Associate for Indian Council of Medical Research-funded project on autism and Counselling Supportive Supervisor for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Counselling Program (GFATM). Through all these years, she has worked in multiple capacities across CHINAR’s core intervention areas. Networking, proposals, internships and evaluation are part of her role including all publications – annual reports, newsletters, brochures. Besides, she also manages social media and website. Afifa yearns to learn more every day and develop new skills. She has been working passionately towards CHINAR’s mission since years and named as Afifa CHINAR by many. Calling herself a social doctor, she believes social work nourishes her soul. 

Javeed Hajam

Assistant Director, Finance & Procurement

In 2011, Javeed joined CHINAR International as a researcher and since then has progressed to Assistant Director Finance & Procurement. Having a Master’s degree in finance and control, Javeed has hands-on experience in financial auditing. Before joining CHINAR International, Javeed tried several options to realize his potential as a key player in challenging, dynamic and creative environments, and believes his quest completed at CHINAR International. He has been on the forefront of CHINAR International’s crisis relief work since the floods of 2014. Under his supervision, CHINAR International’s external audits have been error free for the past several years. Javeed is an energetic and enthusiastic young leader with a passion to serve society. With his strong leadership skills, Javeed leads the team on ground in an exemplary manner. 

Dr. Zahida Shah

CEO

Pioneer in lifestyle disorders and obesity management, Dr. Zahida is born and brought up in Kashmir. Dr. Zahida completed her MBBS from the Government Medical College, Srinagar, in 1995. In Kashmir, she has worked in both government and private sectors. Having witnessed and lived through the consequences of conflict, she always felt the worst victims of the conflict were the women and children. In her passion to live her dream and contribute to women’s health, she chose to give up a government job and established her own private clinic by the name “Mother care clinic in 2003. The clinic, which was much needed in these times, aimed at a holistic approach to women’s

health that included education, prevention, rehabilitation, and treatment of lifestyle and psychosocial disease among women. Dr Zahida has closely worked and always ready to work with any organization that shares the same aim and passion.

Dr. M Ishaq

Director - Community Outreach & Engagement

Dr. Mohammad Ishaq is a well-established biological researcher in the United States with over 30 years of experience at prominent US-based institutions. He is currently a senior researcher at the Leidos Biomedical Research in Frederick, MD, an affiliate of the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research, National Institutes of Health. He earned his Master’s in Biochemistry from Lucknow University (India), Ph.D. in Biochemistry from J.N. Medical College, AMU (India) and postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. Before coming to the U.S., he taught Biochemistry at the Govt Medical College (Kashmir) where he also managed the clinical laboratory of the department, and also served as a Senior Resident in the Clinical Biochemistry Department at the SKIMS (Kashmir). He is passionate about Kashmir and believes that social engagement and empowerment can alleviate the suffering of the marginalized communities.

Farooq Syed

Farooq grew up in Kashmir where he attended Kashmir University for his Bachelors in Electrical Engineering. He attended City University of New York for his Masters in Computer Science. He works for an international development bank in Washington DC. Farooq has been part of the All Dulles Area Muslim Society – ADAMS community in Northern Virginia since 2000. He has served ADAMS in the capacity of Secretary, Vice-President, and President. He is currently co-chair of ADAMS Zakat Services Committee and ADAMS By-laws committee. He also served on the board of ADAMS Compassionate Healthcare Network, a free medical clinic in Chantilly, Virginia. He was also a board member of ADAMS Endowment Fund for several years. Farooq has been married for 20+ years and has 4 children.

Abid Qadri

Abid Qadri is a Global Technology Solutions and Services Executive with over 20 years of experience providing strategic leadership, scaling businesses, and achieving operational efficiencies along with assembling and managing teams in the global technology and telecommunications marketplace.

Over his career Abid has worked for multinational companies including Wipro, Tata Group, Orange Business Services, to name a few, across different countries. Abid has held direct oversight of multimillion dollar budgets, adding to revenue that scaled to $400m+, and leading diverse global teams of 250+ people.

Experienced in effective and organization-wide influence to build consensus across key stakeholders, Abid brings decades of experience in using people skills, technology, and processes to enhance organizations’ performances while maintaining a strong commitment to integrity and accountability.

As a Co-Founder of Child Nurture and Relief, Abid has been an integral part of the organization through its formative years (2003-2012) and acted as an Officer. He rejoined the board in 2024.

Irfan Shahmiri

Founder and Chairman

After spending around two decades in corporate America, Irfan quit his job at Microsoft in 2011 to focus full time on CHINAR. Previously, he worked for US companies – DEC, Compaq, HP, and Fannie Mae.

Irfan has been instrumental in the progress of CHINAR being the chief architect both in USA and India. He runs a tight ship and has aggressively moved CHINAR into one of the top non-profits of J&K. He is driven to develop solutions that address the root cause of the problem related to youth and children of conflict – solutions that are sustainable, cost effective, scalable and high impact. Solid in principles and relentless in his pursuit for large scale social impact, Irfan envisions CHINAR to be one of the leaders in nonprofit space.

Irfan grew up in Kashmir, India. Education – BE from (NIT) Kashmir University, Srinagar (J&K) and MS from University of Florida, Gainesville. He is a founding member of both CHINAR organizations (VA, USA – 2003 and Srinagar, India – 2011).
